Note to Self… “In case I ever need to perform an emergency tracheotomy…”

While I was on my walk this morning, the thought came to me that I need to get a ball-point pen to keep in my purse—just in case I ever need to perform an emergency tracheotomy on someone.

A couple of weeks ago, my friend’s husband Tom (retired Army, retired Police Officer, incredibly cool, and very handsome older man) mentioned (during our conversation on how I might someday need to perform a tracheotomy and thus be prepared by having a ballpoint pen in my purse) that if I had a ballpoint pen on me when such an occasion arose…I wouldn’t even really need my little pocket knife to make an incision at someone’s throat if I needed to do an emergency tracheotomy on them, because I’d probably be able to puncture through the person’s skin at the hollow of their throat with the smaller/sharper part of the pen casing. Thus, as I was walking this morning, I did a mental “note to self” that, the next time I’m at Wal-Mart, I need to pick up a couple of ballpoint pens to keep in purse.

This got me to thinking, wondering if everyone finds themselves making mental “notes to self” on their morning walks.  Do you?

Marcia!! I make mental notes to myself all the time–Then I forget!! LOL!!! I need to keep a pen and notebook by my bed—that is where I do all my “notes to self”! Sometimes I get up and write it down—so that I can forget it and go to sleep!!!

You had me really thinking this morning. I don’t have morning walks so the obvious answer is no, I don’t make mental “notes to self” on my morning walks, but that made me wonder if I ever make mental “notes to self”. Yep, I do but it’s not often because I know that if I don’t write it down, then even with my mental “note”, I will forget. So if i do make a mental “note” it will usually be to remember to write whatever I need to remember down.

my ultimate dream is to have a personal secretary that walks around behind me during all waking hours so that when I have a thought I could just voice it aloud and they could jot it down. or make reminder calls for me. or remind me of things that I forget. that would be cool. how often do i have a mental thought but not a pen to write it down? somewhere there is a missing link between brain and “to-do” list.

Yep, you have turned into mom 🙂

  5. My first time to visit your blog, it won’t be my last. Read on to the Coyotes and you took me out west, and I’m grateful because we didn’t get to travel there last fall like usual. We have coyotes here too, though they are mountain coyotes. Giggle. That’s what we call the Ozarks. Mountains. Yes, I know, it’s a bit ridiculous, since they aren’t mountains at all, but since I didn’t make a note to self, I can’t remember the exact term, though it’s in my nonfiction book about the Boston Mountains. Oh, well, thanks for an entertaining blog on a cloudy January day. I’ll be back.

My dear friend….how I love you! i am constantly making mental notes to myself, but i reckon that a ball point pen as you’ve sugguested has NEVER been on the list of stuff to have in case of….

my notes to self are more like these:

    1. Read Marcia’s blog.
    2. Read a Marcia book

    That’s all. Just those two.
