My Sister’s Imaginary Friend “Siggy” (Contest Winners…New Contest!)

So, as you may or may not know, my sister and I are weird.  But in a good way…at least to my way of thinking.  But…well…let me start from the beginning:

When I was little I fell in love with a groovy little British boy named Jack Wild.  Now, you know Jack…he played the Artful Dodger in the 1968 movie version of Oliver!  (Stole the show, too, I might add.)  Anywho, I didn’t fall in love with Jack because of his Oliver! performance.  No siree!  I fell in love with Jack as Jimmy in the all time greatest TV series EVER, H.R. Puf N Stuf!  That’s right!  Though I realized many years later that WitchiePoo is the true wonder of the show, at age six I LOVED Jimmy!  I remember embarrassing my dad once in regard to my passion for Jimmy.  Understand MY dad is way way way hard to embarrass!  However, when at the grocery store with him once in good ol’ (somewhere near) Grace, ID…I begged and begged and begged him to purchase a teenager magazine for me with Jimmy’s picture on the front!  I mean I LOVED Jimmy!  LOVED him.

However, as we all know, even though I loved Jimmy, I loved Huckleberry Finn more…and Huck always won out and remained my imaginary friend for a couple of years following the My-Daughter-Embarrassed-Me-By-Begging-For-a-Movie-Start-Magazine-in-the-Middle-of-the-Grocery-Store incident with my dad in 1971.  Yes, it’s true.  I did have an imaginary friend for that long.  But hey…at least he was a human!

I mean, take my sister, Luanna, for example…my little sister also had an imaginary friend when she was approximately three or four years old.  She called him, “Siggy” and he was always there to play with her, sit down to dinner with the family, etc.  Ah yes, Siggy…I remember it well.  Siggy this and Siggy that.  It was adorable!

Furthermore, Siggy was also a ‘real’ entity of sorts.  Just as my Huckie was my imaginary proxy for the real Huckleberry Finn…Siggy was Luanna’s imaginary proxie for…of course…Sigmund the Sea Monster!  Yep!  It’s true!  (And at the moment I’m wondering how my sister and I would’ve survived our childhoods without the brilliant minds of Sid and Marty Kroft!)

Yep…good ol’ Siggy…or Sigmund the Sea Monster and you know him.  What a guy!  A little on the skiddish side, but with Luanna there by his side, he did all right.  I mean, his family was really mean to him (which you already know, if your familiar with the TV show Sigmund the Sea Monster).  Yes…Luanna and Siggy were quite the pair (as you can see by this photo of them together.  See him?  Right there next to her?  Oh, wait…that’s right…he’s imaginary so you probably can’t see him!  Sorry!)

Yep…good ol’ Siggy.  Good ol’ Luanna.  What a couple of mischief makers!  I’m telling you, you never saw such a pair!  (Reminiscent sigh of mechanically over childhood things.)

So last week it was Corn Worms, and this week it’s imaginary friends and sea monsters.  Hmmm…Am I sensing a blog theme in my brain here?  Eureeka!  October is upon me and Halloween at the end of it!  Yahoo!!!!!  Therefore, I think another spooky contest is in order, don’t you?

First of all, let’s talk about the winner (plus 1) of the Sandy’s Corn Worm blog from last week.  Now, as you know if you entered, our dearest friend “K. Lou” wrote that FANTASTIC poem, an “Ode to Sandy’s Corn Worm!”  AND I think you’ll agree she deserves an award for that!  HOWEVER, there were so many entries and all of them were sooooooo wonderful, that I’ve decided to choose 2 winners for this contest!  Of course, “K. Lou” is one winner, for her tender, empathetic poem “Ode to Sandy’s Corn Worm” and her insight into how forgiving one should be a husband who does dishes, whether or not he grinds up your pet Corn Worm in the garbage disposal!  K. Lou…winner #1…e-mail your address to me at marcialmcclure@cs.com so I can get your autumn/movie-themed prize package in the mail to you asap!

Now as for winner #2…there were so many many many fabulous entries that I’m just going to pull a name out of my hat as the winner…so hold on a second.  And the winner is…hold on…Chris Bails! Congratulations, Chris!  Please e-mail your snail mail address to me at marcialmcclure@cs.com so I can get YOUR autumn/movie-themed package in the mail as well!  Fun!  I LOVE doing contests!

Now, as for this week’s contest…oooo!  It’s another Autumn/October/Halloween-Themed contest, okay?  For this contest leave your comments on your favorite childhood TV show and you’ll be entered to win:  A “Monster House” DVD (I LOVE this movie), and appropriate Autumn/Halloween snacks to munch on while watching it!  Yummy!  Yep!  Another movie and snacks…I guess I’m not feeling too original today!  Still…movie?…snacks?…monsters?  Yep, an ode to Siggy…my sister’s imaginary friend!

Meanwhile, if you’re not familiar with Simund the Sea Monster…here’s the old 1970s opening credits!  LOVE it!

I loved watching Barney when I was younger! That show probably made up 50% of my intelligence, haha! 🙂
Monster House is such a great movie! I haven’t watched it in forever, though!

  6. Crystal J. says:

I loved My Little Pony, She-ra Princess of Power, and Rose Petal. The new My Little Pony is not the same 🙁 Not many people remember She-ra and Rose Petal. The new cartoons aren’t as good as the old ones!!!

  7. Cristina says:

Jimmy! Hands down. I loved Jimmy. I was convinced some way we were meant to be. hahaha. Little girl dreams are the best aren’t they? I love Monster House. I found these giant jelly candy spiders at the store and got a couple. Then I made popcorn and mixed it with candy corn. I then hid a spider in the bowl. I turned on a movie and put the bowl down for my grandson, (he is a 4 year old with autism who lives with me). Omgosh. you should have seen him when he got to the spider. He loved it! He was so surprised and excited. He thought it was so funny. Out of the mist of life’s biggest challenges comes beauty so awesome it makes you cry. Fun post. Good stuff.

Ahhhh! Such a cute story! My McKaydee had an imaginary friend for awhile that was her boyfriend and his name was “July”. She had her wedding all planned out to him and everything. So cute! I loved shows like The Cosby Show, Growing Pains (loved Kirk Cameron!), Little House on the Prairie and now my kids watch these on Netflix and love them. It is so fun to see them enjoy shows I loved. Monster House is a great movie! Everyone needs to see this one!
    Happy Autumn Friend!

  9. Brooke says:

I used to love watching the Love Boat. Just absolutely loved it. And mork and Mindy. Ohh, and the cosby show. Such good shows back then!

  10. Emily says:

I loved watching what I called “The Muphy and Jody Show” I can’t even remember the real name now. It was about the manequins that came to life in the store at night. I’m going to have to do a search and look it up again!

  11. Re Emmons says:

My sister and I weren’t allowed to watch much television. Mom believed in reading and drawing…a lot. We enjoyed all that too. Both of us could/would/still do draw people. She has a granddaughter that draws a lot also! My granddaughter, 5, reads a lot!
We enjoyed “I Dream of Jeanie”, Elizabeth Montgomery’s show as well as Lucille Balls’ hilarious antics, and no, I would be remiss to not mention “Sigmund The Sea Monster”. My children often spoke in rememberance of their watching: “Where the Red Fern Grows”. We’ve had an experience like that. Our big giant shepherd and our little black (both saved pet-friends) fluffy kitty, TuTu, lov’d one another. She’d point a place in our backyard, and he’d dig it out for her, yet only where she chose. They never did find buried treasure. They’d curl up together to nap, and when she passed, he just mourned and mourned her. True story, you know.

  12. Amy says:

I really enjoyed “Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman”. I remember sitting down on Saturday nights with my family and my Mom putting soft foam curlers in my wet hair to sleep on over night…..for lovely curls on sunday Morning. Loved “Dr. Quinn”. I loved the “pioneer” area romance movies and books. Good old fashion chivalry. Probably why i like MLM books so much.

  13. Shadow says:

When i was a kid, i always went to the scary shows. So Weird, Goosebumps, Tales of the Crypt…and the list went on! lol What a weird child i was. 🙂 Monster House is a super cute movie! Love it! Thanks for the chance to win! Very fun! 🙂

  14. Leanna Morris says:

O I enjoyed so many tv shows as a kid (well I still do) but we weren’t allowed to watch a lot of tv. I enjoyed all the “old” Saturday morning cartoons, like Huckleberry Hound, Road Runner, etc. but there were other shows I liked as well: Dobie Gillis, My 3 Sons, Dennis the Menace…guess I’m giving clues as to my age here. I still enjoy watching reruns of these and so many others.
By the way, Monster House is such a good family movie. Would love to win to share with my grandkids! (Oops…there goes that age thing again!)

  15. sue brandes says:

My favorite cartoon was Road Runner and Bugs Bunny. Also loved the Addams Family and The Munsters. There were so many fun shows when I was a kid.

  16. Rebecca Booth says:

My favorites were Mighty Mouse, Tom and Jerry, and Bugs Bunny!

  17. Kirsten says:

The Smurfs was one of my favorite Saturday morning cartoons. So you can imagine how excited I was to see that it’s back (somewhat) in theater! I’ve also bought copies of the cartoons for my kids to watch and lo and behold! They love them too! Yeah! My favorite after school show was 21 Jump Street. I mean, who doesn’t love a little Johnny Depp now and then?!

  18. Angeline Jarvis says:

Scooby Doo! I loved the mystery on the show and loved all the characters.

  19. Julie Witt says:

This is totally going to date me, but I refused to miss an episode of The Monkees!! Every week I drooled over Davey Jones and sang along with the guys:) And of course, I watched The Brady Bunch and The Partridge Family religiously as well! Yeah ….. definitely dating myself!

  20. Rebecca Birch says:

I loved Little House on the Prairie, The Brady Bunch, and I Dream of Jeannie. Wouldn’t it be fun to cause a little mischief by folding your arms and blinking at people? My mom made my sister and I silkie nightgowns when we were little. We used to run around the house “being Jeannie”.

  21. Christina says:

I’m with Stacey… Kirk Cameron in Growing Pains was definitely a favorite. He was sooo cute. Loved Cosby Show too. When I was little I had an imaginary friend named Angela. I had seven brothers and I lived on an acreage so I needed a female friend in my life to keep me company. We went on lots of adventures together, but I kept her pretty much to myself. Facts of Life, and Family Ties were other favorites. T.V. was so wholesome back then… sigh.

  22. Bethany says:

I was a pansy child and afraid of my own shadow, so I watched Winnie the Pooh for many years (there isn’t anything scary in winnie the pooh after all!!). Then when I was a little older my favorite thing to watch was reruns of Little house! I also watched sonic the hedghog because I wanted my older brother to think I was cool.

  23. Marie V. says:

For me it was Full House! I loved watching that show! I’d turn the tv on as soon as I got home from school!

  24. My favorite show was SpongeBob >.> edysicecreamlover18@gmailDOTcom

  25. Mippy says:

I’ll say the Adam’s Family! I loved Lurch and cousin IT 🙂
Thank you for the chance! 🙂

  26. Carrie Martone says:

My favorite was Duck Tales for cartoon and Full House for TV show

  27. Oris says:

Marcia and Luanna with their imaginary friends about drove over the edge!
