Bless Your Beautiful Hide!…Because I have the flu :(

Yep…it’s true.  I’m down and out with the flu!  Therefore my fuzzy brain has decided that this weeks blog will simply be a contest to win the Seven Brides of Seven Brothers Two Disk DVD!

7bridesdvdYesterday on my Facebook, I posted a photo from Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and who knew so many of us still love this wonderful movie?!  Therefore, just leave a comment here or on Facebook, Goodreads, etc., letting me know why YOU like the movie and you’re entered!  As usual, I’ll draw a name out of my hat next Monday to see who wins.

Meanwhile, the name I pulled out of my hat as the winner of last week’s contest for the DVD version of Flipped is…Lisa Hanson!  (Who misses riding her bike down hill “hands free!”)  Lisa, just e-mail your address to me at and I’ll get your DVD in the mail to you!

And next week, I promise the contest will include something other than a movie!  I just realized that I need to branch out where contest items are concerned! Ha ha!

I love this movie. I owned it on VHS, but haven’t ever gotten around to getting the DVD. (And haven’t had a VHS player for years.)

  2. Megan E says:

Fun show!!! Love the music … the singing, the dancing, and the romance 😉

  3. Kristie says:

I LOVE this movie–and have seen it many times!! LOL–I raised my 6 children with this movie–they loved to watch it too–the girls fell in love with the brothers and the boys loved their manliness and the “Lonesome Polecat” scene!! They just don`t make musicals like this anymore and I love these old ones!!! <3

  4. Lynette Dyer says:

I’d love to tell you why I love the movie, but I’ve never seen it!! I read all of the comments on FB and I have added it to my “must get one day” list! I love the things I learn on FB! Who says FB is a time-waster? 🙂

I love this movie because my brothers and I danced and sang in our livingroom. I remember watching it with my mom one late night when she stayed up with me when I was sick. It’s a great movie!

  7. Alison Harding says:

Yesterday when I saw the picture you posted, my 13 year old daughter was sitting with me I started talking about how much I loved that movie. She and I spent the next hour watching clips of the movie on y-tube. I would love to win this to watch with her. if I don’t win; This movie may find its way here via the Easter Bunny.

  8. Heidi DeFriez says:

I love this movie because me+5 sisters+mom=7! With seven girls in my family it was so whimsical to think of us all living in the mountains married to seven hot, singing backwoodsmen. I wish that there were still barn dances and romantic kid nappings!

  9. Chelsey Jenkins says:

who doesn’t love being deceived when you enter a romance. 🙂 I love you… welcome home to a house full of men. One of my favorite movies and plays.

  10. Judy Harder says:

So sorry you are sick 🙁 My daughter and son-in-law just came home for a whirlwind weekend. On the drive home from the airport my daughter was whistling a song from the movie and my son-in-law (26) piped up telling me how he really liked 7 Brides for 7 Brothers… “I’d be friends with those brothers”! Love my kids!!

  11. Ramona Snyder says:

  13. Amanda P says:

I absolutely LOVE Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. When I was in elementary school I used to watch it just about every morning before I would go to school. (I used to be an early riser. :)) This is actually one of only a handful of musicals my husband will watch. Benjamin is one good looking man!

  14. Susan Arroyo says:

Even when you’re sick with the flu, your fuzzy thoughts were of one of the best musicals ever! Hope you’re feeling better.

  15. Kayla Pruitt says:

My family were huge fans of classic movies and musicals. There was a period where my parents would insist on watching the same 3 movies every weekend. They included “Arsenic and Old Lace”, “John Wayne’s McLintock” and of course “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers”. My first school play with my homeschool group also ended up being “Seven Brides” (I was Townsperson #4, I think) 🙂 This story has had a lot of my childhood wrapped in it! 🙂

  16. Kayla Pruitt says:

Thanks to “Kristie” above I now have the Lonesome Polecat song stuck in my head. 🙂 I think I am about to give my fellow librarians a rousing rendition!

  17. paige viehweg says:

This is one of the first movies I remember from when I was little. My mom and my dad would sing along with the songs as I watched it. And yet I don’t own it now as an adult. Even if I don’t win I am going to have to buy this movie.

  18. Kristen Tucker says:

Loved this movie since I was a little girl!

  19. Kylee Gifford says:

I have always loved “Seven brides for Seven brothers” it was one of the first musicals I’ve seen. It has never failed to bring a smile to my face in the years since.

  20. Gwen Matkin says:

First off I love the movie. Fun little story for you all. My Dad came from a large family and there were 11 boys! I don’t know if it was the director or the casting person. But had my uncles and dad been older they would have been in it. (The directors would of had there work cut out for them because my uncles we’re not blessed with the talent of singing, but they sure were rascals so they would of been perfect for the parts) I hope you get better soon Marcia, not fun stuff!

  21. Morgan Jenkins says:

I love this movie so much because of the romance, the way that Milly teaches all of the brothers how to have manners and treat women with respect. I also really love this movie because I am an actress myself (mostly in musical theatre) and the moment I saw this movie and heard the music, I fell in love with it. I mean…who wouldn’t want to be casted in a a show with many attractive men right? 🙂

  22. Jessie Clark says:

I love musicals. This one particularly cracked me up with the “shotgun wedding” that didn’t really need to occur at the end.

  23. Lisa Philpot says:

Had a date in high school that took me hiking in the mountains. He had a beautiful voice and broke out into “Bless Your Beautiful Hide” … It echoed through the canyon, little embarrassing but still great! Love that movie!

  24. Caroline Sue Skoubye says:

Never underestimate a good song and dance with an axe where Seven Brides For Seven Brothers is concerned! I’ve loved this show since I was a child and ALWAYS

  25. Caroline Sue Skoubye says:

    (to finish my comment)

…ALWAYS wanted to jump in the screen and dance with the handsome brothers!

    *sigh* 😀

  26. Annalisa Thaler says:

“Bless your beautiful hide!” I love that this movie is your contest! I remember spending a week at my grandmother’s house watching this movie on VHS repeatedly until the tape broke. It was so fun to sing and dance and laugh with her. Who doesn’t love the “7 scroungy woodsmen” with alphabetical bible names??????

  27. Jennifer H says:

I was introduced to this movie as a teenager when we were working on a roadshow – fun, and I LOVE this movie! Haha one of my favorite parts is when Dorkus throws the snowball…. haha sigh!
Even more fun, my husband likes it too… interestingly enough and a complete coincidence… he is the 7th brother in his family AND we got married in June (2001) ;^)

  28. librarypat says:

This is one of my favorite musicals. It is just so much fun. Many of the sets are obviously fake, the acting and dialogue are over done, it is predictable, and we love it. Our second daughter fell in love with the youngest brother the first time she saw the movie. Years later, she named her son Gideon after him.

I miss the old musicals. They were made to enjoy. No great drama or earth shaking social comment. I loved Nelson Eddy – Jeanette MacDonald, Howard Keel, Gordon MacRae, Kathryn Grayson, etc.

  29. Kim Darwin says:

I’ve never seen the movie, but I love a good old fashion chic flick romance. I’m trusting I’ll like Seven Brides for Seven because, Marcia, because I like your romantic style. Feel better soon.

  30. Elaina says:

Love this movie! Love all the old classic movies. Especially musicals!

  31. Kaylin Devries says:

My 12 year old daughter loves to act in musical theater. Her and I like to watch the old musicals together. I have not watched this one with her yet. It would be fun to watch it together. It is a great show

  32. This is seriously a favorite. After your post I wanted to go and borrow it from someone! I remember watching it for the first time with my Aunt Sandra when my baby brother was born and have loved it ever since!

  33. Brynette McKinney says:

I love this movie! My grandmother introduced this and Oklahoma to me when I was young and they’ve been favorites ever since. The music, the story, the classically handsome men and pretty women…what’s not to love!! That old VHS I would borrow from her doesn’t work anymore and I haven’t been able to get a hold of the DVD, yet. Crossing my fingers my name comes out of the hat!!

  34. Amy Cook says:

Is it bad that I haven’t EVER watched this? My husband’s family watches it quite often, but not me!! I’ve heard it’s good. Maybe someday. I like to read books to much!! 🙂

  35. Michelle Christensen says:

I love this movie because my sisters and I used oto dress up and act it out while watching as little girls. I always had to be Alice because my hair was blonde at the time. My oldest sidter always got to be Liza. Now that pregnancy has darkened my hair and I live in my own house I can be Liza while I watch. What a fun movie contest. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
